Relaxing for a Few Moments in the Heat of the Day
From left to right: Jose (our driver and coworker), Pastor G (our Baptist Men worksite superintendent; that's "Maestro" to you, Dennis); Nelson and Mayron. All had taken a break from working to hear the children singing. Nelson and Mayron were both involved in some serious Godwinks.
Last week, Mike and Ginger Greene, the Baptist Men onsite coordinators for Honduras, had received a gift of $300 from a person who had served on a team from Southern Pines last year. The gift was designated for a foundation for a house to be built by a Baptist Men work team. Mike and Ginger were not sure what to do with it since this year's projects are pretty much accounted for, and they have been praying about what to do with it. While we were on the worksite Monday, the Pastor of the church where we are working began to tell them that Mayron and his wife have been on the list for a new house for some time, already have the land, but have been waiting to ask for their house to be built until they could save up the money for the foundation. Mike and Ginger asked to go see the property. Then they told the Pastor, who then told Mayron and his wife, that they have the money for their foundation. There was great rejoicing. The foundation arrangements are being made and somehow, someway, Mayron and his wife will soon have a new home.
Today, at the end of the day one of our team members was sitting on the side steps of the church when Nelson, who had been mixing and hauling concrete in a bucket all afternoon, came out of the church and down the steps holding the hand of a young girl. They were engaged in conversation and laughing, obviously enjoying each other's company. Because of the evident love showing in their faces the team member assumed they were father and daughter. The team member had Egla ask Nelson if the girl was his daughter. Nelson laughed and replied that he was not her father, but he was her Sunday School teacher. Tonight at devotional we reflected that we would leave Colonia Unidas knowing that the Sunday School building our teams are building will be in good hands. As Ginger and Mike are fond of saying, often with tears in their eyes: God is good --- all the time.
